  1. it seems to me that the subject in this picture is sad for some reason. the elements i see in this picture are line and texture. the texture comes from the rugged terrain and how i can imagine it feeling. the line comes from the dirt path that leads your eye out as far as you can see and the path disappears leaving you to wonder what is at the end.

  9. 1. I believe that this is a photo of the subject mourning over the land that was burned in a fire.
    2. The photographer uses a strong focal point, along with lines in this picture.
    3. The use of lines in the photo applies to the principle of movement. After the viewer focuses on the subject, the line then leads the viewer's eye farther back in the picture and allows them to then view the rest of the picture.
    4. The elements and principles used in the photo help display the message of a path that is broken beyond repair.

  10. The individual has come to a destroyed childhood hangout and is overwhelmed with emotion. The element of line helps create the principle of emphasis because the line leads up to the subject, the main focus of the picture This brings the story to life because the line of the road leads the viewer throughout the picture and then back to the subject, which really stresses the feelings the person is feeling.

  12. 1. In my perspective, I see a somewhat poor looking man sobbing over what looks like a burnt field (possibly his home.)
2.The Elements I see are: Line, Space, and Texture.
3.Line: I feel that the line/trail in the photo helps keep Balance with the man and the rest of the field.
4.Elements and Principals show you the smallest details which may help you tell the story, such as how the Texture looks like ash.

  14. The man looks like he is crying because of the loss of something that had burned down in front of him. Probably his house or plants. I see the element of value from the darkness and bleakness of the background. This element is applied to the principle of design of movement because our eyes are tracking the dark picture in the background, trying to get details as to why the man seems to be crying in the picture. The element of value showing the darkness really pushes the sadness and bleakness of the picture and the tone of the whole story.

  17. 1. I think this picture depicts a story of a man who's traveled a long road away from home and is now missing what he left behind.
    2. The element of art I see is lines.
    3. The main line is the long road in the background, but another line that compliments this long road are the blurred fences in the background. This indicates the path he's traveled. The lines of the mountains indicate how far he's traveled as they appear to be distant.
    4. They shape the picture and give it a story by having different elements and principles represent something. It's all based on interpretation, so how the picture is formatted helps the viewer interpret the story.

    2. I see Value and some Form on the guy as he pops out in this picture.
    3. The Form on this picture makes it also have Movement because the guy popping out at you makes your eye move towards where he is at and up the path.
    4. The elements of arts and principles help tell story on a pic by giving the viewer a better understanding on the purpose of the pic.

An element of art i believe that was used was color, how the ground goes from dark and leads you straight into the fog in the background. 21. I feel that this person is in shambles because of this path he needs to go through but he doesn't want to go any further, probably because of emotional that happened to him.
The only element that I see in this photograph is Space.
The element Space helps create a principle of Movement.
With the element Space and the principle Movement, it helps tells a story of this long, winding path that this man has to take.

4.Space helps give off a vibe that something happened since there's a lot of space and the ground looks burnt.

  23. It look like a hard working farmer has lost his crops and by the way he is position it can demonstrate his sorrow over his burned crops. In the principles of art you can technically image his wrinkly hands from all the hard work he was accomplish over the years. Also for color you can see the difference between his hat compare to how the navy blue color look without being expose to the sun for a long period of time. For the principles of design there is a demonstration of balance from all the black sit on the ground. This elements have helped me predict what could have happened in this photo.

  24. The man in the photo appears to be making a tough decision: does he travel the long road? Elements of art include a strong focal point (the man) and color; the colors complement each other. Color creates a principle of design of balance due to the similar hue of all colors in this image, which do not contrast and therefore relieve the eyes from having to absorb multiple vibrant colors. The elements of art and principles of design help tell a simple story of a man's difficult decision.

  25. I think that the guy in the picture is devastated at what he's looking at which is the field in front of him that looks like it has maybe been burned. I see the elements of value and space in this photograph. The element of value helps create the principle of contrast in this picture because the brightness of the sky contrasts the darkness of the field. The element and principles that are in the picture help tell the story because they make you understand the concept of the picture better and be able to "read" the story.

  27. I think the person is sobbing because of the destruction caused by a fire. One of the most prominent elements in this photo is the use of lines- specifically the trail. The trail line creates an implied movement. Perhaps it symbolizes the presence of the future and having to persevere through adversity. The empty space behind the person emphasizes the emptiness and loss of the destroyed field.

  28. In this photo, I see the elements of lines and space that help create the principle of emphasis. I think the elements and principle of design help tell the story of a man who is exhausted from being lost, a long hike or a walk who still has a long way to go by exposing the large amount of space between him and the end of the path. The exhaustion is revealed by his body language.

  29. It looks as if this man in the picture is crying when he sees what if left of the landscape. A barren, dark land of ash and dirt with a tannish trail pushing through. It seems maybe there was a large fire which consumed what was there previously which would explain why the man would be weeping over his loss. The colors in the photograph and the vast amount of space, gives the impression that something is missing that was once there. There is such an emphasis on the subject's emotions and the background it sets the mood for the picture.

  30. This photograph portrays a story of a man who has obviously experienced loss or went through a traumatic experience. The photographer uses the line of the trail, the negative space surrounding the subject, and the value of the highly saturated color scheme to capture an emotional an intimate moment. The negative space in the photo makes the man the prominent subject in the photograph, thus, creating an emphasis on the man. In conjunction the element of art and the principles of design develop a story by guiding the viewer through the image in order to establish a better understanding of the context of the photo.

  100. The subject of the photo looks like he just heard some devastating news. The picture uses line to lead the eye through the photograph as well as space around the man. The lines in the photograph allow for eye movement. The space around the man creates a barren and lonely setting that contributes to the man's distraught state.

  104. I believe that the person is currently going through tough times. The elements of art include a strong focal point (the man) and color; the colors complement each other. Color creates a principle of design of balance due to the similar hue of all colors in this image, which do not contrast and therefore relieve the eyes from having to absorb multiple vibrant colors. The elements of art and principles of design help tell a simple story of a man's difficult decision.

  108. 1. I don't know whether or not the man is relieved from coming from the long distance or stressed because of the long journey that he has ahead of him.
    2. Within this picture is the Rule of Thirds where the man is in the bottom left of the picture. Along with that is the use of the pathway serving as line.
    3. The pathway in the picture that creates the element of line also creates movement of the eyes to see the mountain/hill in the back and also makes the viewer realize the amount of open space in front of the man.
    4. The elements of line and space help add to the story in which you can tell there was either a long journey the man just came from or that there will be a long journey ahead of him.

  112. I think the man is upset both internally and externally. Externally, he is upset over the open field that is surrounded by debris or rubble from a possible fire, however internally he is most likely overwhelmed with the emotions and doesn't know how to deal with them, hence why his head is in his hands.
I believe that the elements of art used here include line and texture.
Line helps the picture keep going and leading your eyes past the subject.
I believe it helps tell the story because you could interpret it as pain. That path is never ending and so is the emotion pain. Yet, once we dwell on it and move past we see that there are other paths we can take and that life goes on through the struggle.

  120. The man in the photograph looks mentally exhausted. The elements of art shown are lines and space. By the use of lines it creates movement throughout the photograph since your eye follows the line. In all the line and negative space along with movement and emphasis on the man it tells a story that the man has a long road ahead of him (line and negative space showing there is a lot of road to cover/go down) and that it is up to him to go down that road (he is the main focal point it is all emphasized on him the line starting from where he is positioned).

  126. -I think the story behind this image conveys a deeper emotion as the subject seems to be upset, distraught or even exhausted as he is holding his head in his hands.
-The elements that appear in the image are texture and line.
-The element of texture brings out the principle of emphasis.
-These elements and principles help the photographer portray his/her story by the variations in the different elements and principles used. The path appears to be never ending, symbolizing pain or exhaustion and the colors/hue in the image are darker and more defined by the different textures found within the dirt and the subject's skin as well. I think the overall meaning is showing that through the path of life, people often grow tired and upset but it keeps going and they are encouraged to continue pushing past the obstacles.

  127. I think the man is distraught and mentally tired because he wants to give up and not move forward following the trail. I also feel as if he is disappointed at himself for not completing what he was supposed to.. In this photograph I see the element of lines because of the dirt trail. I also see the element of space because there is just land and then the man is the center of attention. The element of line helps create a principle of design by showing the principle of balance and movement. It shows balance because the man is standing towards the left side and the trial is sort of towards the right side balancing out the photograph. The elements and principles help set out the story by making the trail and the man be more emphasized.

  128. David Ryder utilizes the rule of thirds and strong focal point in his photograph. The rule of thirds allows the viewers to see the landscape background and the man is the object in photograph, which gives a sense of loneliness and grief.

Also the clear subject in front of a slightly blurred background gives the photo contrast.

  134. I believe this is a picture of a man looking back at his hometown which has been ravaged by some sort of natural disaster. The rule of thirds and lines are used in order to make the eye move from the man down the road to let us see the total area that has been ravaged.

  139. Ryder uses the rule of thirds and a strong focal point in the picture. I think that the guy has put himself somewhere vacant to think about something that may be bothering him. Or he is running away from a struggle he is having. The element of art that is used is space because the photo has a lot of negative space leaving just the main focal point as the subject. The space that is used helps show the movement that the photo creates with the little pathway shown in the photo. This adds to the story of the photo by making the appeal towards the guy and the pathway.

  140. I think the man has a journey ahead of him and he is upset because he does not want to move forward. I see line within the photograph. This allows you to see the balance it has because the colors are not contrasting and compliment each other really well. It does not distract your vision. The surrounds and elements of art/principle help convey the dreary mood within the photograph.

The elements of art I see in this picture is line and value. I believe that the value helped the photographer use emphasis in principles of art in the photo. 142. I think the man has just discovered that his field has been burned so he can't grow crops, or maybe his land was sold and he is sad. The photographer uses rule of thirds, strong focal point, and the element of line in this photo. The element of line creates the principle of movement as our eyes go from the man to the line/path that goes off in the distance. The principle helps convey the story because as our eyes are taken around the photo, we see the desolation of the place and the hopelessness stretching far away as the man despairs.

  149. The photographer uses value in the ground/ surrounding landscape and the clothes the man is wearing to emphasize the dark and depressing theme in the photo. The man seems to be either unhappy about the life he has chosen (the dirt on his hands and aged/worn out clothing suggest hard work with little pay) or unsure about making a decision about his future.

  150. I think the main focus of the frame is a man who sees how much farther he has of his journey and is mentally exhausted so is taking a break and burying is head in his hands as a symbol of his tiredness. David uses color, value and space in his photograph. Value helps with this picture because it creates a more darker mood, a mood that gets your thinking more of the story behind the man.

  151. The trail in this photo could signify how far the man has come in life and the obstacles he's faced, which leaves him depressed and frustrated signified by his head in his hands. The elements of art in this picture are balance (with the man on the left side of the picture and the trail on the right side) and lines (with the long, curving line of the trail). The element of lines helps demonstrate emphasis, since the line of the trail leads the eyes right to the subject, which is the distraught man. A story of trials and tribulations is told with the focal point on the sad man and the long obstacle of the dirt trail.
